THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD A DIFFERENT VIEW Mike Clegg

In conclusion, sovereignty is not about control by a dictatorial God but about a
Father/Creator who uses all that He is in empowering a creation to love Him and
learn of Him. His divine power is demonstrated as He empowers His creation to
operate as they are made in His image. His sovereignty is seen when He puts
Himself in a place that allows His creatures to touch His heart. His sovereignty is
seen as He “Becomes” and undergo change for us. He becomes flesh and
becomes the sin offering for us, all the while never diminishing who He is. He is
sovereign enough to become vulnerable to death for us. He is powerful enough to
yield some of His control by giving us the freedom to make choices in our lives all
the while knowing that some of these choices we make may cause Him incredible
pain and harm to His creation.
Because He is love He empowers us. Out of His great love for us He respects our
decisions right and wrong. Through His love He weaves our choices and decisions
into His providential plan. To accomplish all this, He becomes one with us in sin
and death so we can become one with Him in His life---that is the sovereignty of
God.
Finally, God is God and as He proclaims in Exodus 3:14, “I am that I am”. The
literal translation is “I shall be that I shall be”. Rotherham offers these words: “I will
become whatsoever I please...”
An amplification of the verse indicates God is saying what I am and what I shall be
in relation to my people, I am and shall be in virtue of what I myself am. That will
never change. The rationale of my actions, is in Myself; in my self-determining will
which I alone possess and I have the authority residing in Myself to change, to
meet the need of My created in bringing about my perfect divine plan.
In this God we can truly rest and worship.
